Yellow and Green Firns in the Black Hills

As autumn gives way to winter the ferns on the forest floor in the Black Hills begin changing from a vibrant green, to yellow and finally a dull brown before going completely dormant. The fern in the foreground seems to point to where there may still be some vibrance in the foliage beyond.
